Lotas

ARTICLE DETAILS

"The original image of this young woman showed her with a hand painted water vessel on her head. I am filled with respect for how young women found the physical strength to carry a heavy water filled ceramic vessel on their head over great distances. When I found this portrait of her, I wanted to replace the heavy object on her head with a symbol of transformation. The moment where a young girl blossoms into a young woman. To me the perfect object to adorn her head was a lotus flower painted with the Navajo graphics. The lotas has become a lotus."

These images, sometimes funny, sometimes serious, have their own individual story. Michael uses the computer to knit together unique imagery not commonly seen together in this context. Whether he uses old images in new ways or mixes new images with old images, each collage comes together as one complete graphic concept. Possibly some will bring laughter, some will bring beauty and some will bring contemplation. Hopefully, you will want to bring some prints into your home.
